QuicktimeVR was created as an extension of Apple Computer's digital software, Quicktime. Quicktime uses multiple compressed images to create the illusion of a an object that can be manipulated in space and viewed from multiple angles. There are two kinds of QTVR files; "objects" and "panoramas". Each type is created using a different technique and the view options vary slightly. All the files linked to this page are the "object" type and, although, a full 360 degree rotation of objects along both planes is possible, to save space, these files are limited to a full rotation in the horizontal plane.

To view these files in your browser, you will need to install and configure two Quicktime plug ins from Apple. The "Quicktime VR Components" plug-in and the "Quicktime" Plug-in.

Everything you need can be obtained from Apple's Quicktime site at "http://qtvr.quicktime.apple.com" Apple has information at their site, if you are having trouble getting Quicktime to work in your browser. Not all browsers support the quicktime plug-in. Netscape and Internet Explorer are two I have tested. If you are using a browser that does not support Quicktime, try downloading a Stuffit version version of the movie. Besides, they are much smaller.

Note: Clicking on the icons on this page attempts to play the movie in your browser.
